Found out at the airport, or a week before the trip when rush fees are your only option.

A lapsed policy

Insurance or registration that quietly ran out, leaving you uncovered or facing a fine.

A forgotten trial

The "cancel before day 30" you meant to do, now billed for a full year.

Questions

How do reminders work?

Beforehand gives you a private calendar link. Add it to Google, Apple or Outlook Calendar once, and every item shows up with heads-up events 30 and 7 days ahead (3 days ahead for monthly things). Your calendar notifies you like any other event, and the feed updates itself when you change something.

Do you send emails?

No. Reminders go to your calendar, which you already check and which works on every device.

What happens if I cancel Pro?

You keep Pro until the end of the period you paid for. After that your items and reminders stay; you just can't add new ones beyond the free 3.

Is my data private?

Your list is only visible to you when signed in. The calendar link is secret, like a private calendar address in Google Calendar. Don't share it.
